Information for childcare centres

Each year 13SICK, National Home Doctor Service visits over 1,000,000 patients in their homes. Many of the patients we see are young children, as children’s immune systems still developing and they are more likely to succumb to infection and illness.

This lowered immunity, combined with the crowded environment of a childcare centre or preschool, means it is very likely for children to come down with infectious illnesses.

Common illnesses include acute respiratory illnesses such as head colds, middle ear infections, whooping cough, croup, and influenza, and infections of the throat, tonsils and larynx. The universal symptoms of coughing, sneezing and a runny nose help illnesses like these to spread quickly in the childcare setting.

Other frequent childhood illnesses include gastroenteritis, skin infections and rashes. Read more about the most common childhood illnesses here.

As every parent will attest, it is always a worry when a child falls ill in the after hours. If the family GP is closed, what do you do? It’s not life-threatening, but at the same time, you know you need to see a doctor, and it can’t wait. That's when 13SICK, National Home Doctor Service can help.
